Making a cast

Yesterday my brother and I made a cast of a clay head. This was the first time I made a clay figure head and it turned out pretty well. My inspiration was my daughter Mika. It was pretty nerve racking, because so many things can go wrong. I’m still nowhere near the finished product and there are many more hurtles on the way, but I am enjoying the path of getting there. Just from doing this one time, I have already learned there are things I could probably have done better and more efficient. I used plaster for the cast, however because of the great detail in the face, it could so easily break off, so perhaps I should use a latex mold next time. But then you have the problem of latex on latex. The idea is that I’ll end up with a latex head. Interesting progress! I made a couple of photo’s of the cast process. Check it out!

The next fase will be pouring in the latex into the mold. I will also have to give the latex skin colour. To be continued!
